Doctorates (Ph.D. programs) are multi-year post-degree university courses that aim at providing graduate students an advanced training toward research activities. Starting from the XXIX cycle the University of Milan-Bicocca established the United PhD School
The main objective of the PhD program in Computer Science of the University of Milano-Bicocca is to prepare highly-qualified researchers to conduct research, work and teach in fundamental and applied topics of the discipline, to design and develop complex IT systems, innovative applications with information and communication technology in different application domains.
About 10 students per year are admitted to the PhD program, with scholarships from the University, private companies or research projects either national or international. The Doctorate program in Computer Science is hosted by the Department of Informatics, Systems and Communication and the main research areas reflect those of its faculty members and research laboratories. In particular, the main research areas of the program are:
– Software architecture and analysis, distributed systems, imaging and artificial vision, robotics
– Date bases and information systems, artificial intelligence, knowledge engineering and management, cooperative technologies
– Bioinformatics, complex systems, formal models of distributed systems
– Information, finance and environment, computational networks and decision sciences
